hi, i’m a 23 year old guy from malaysia…i’m a physically disabled person, using a wheelchair….. my weight is just 40…for the last 8 years, i have been smoking cigerettes(4 cigerettes a day) and drinking beer or rum( 2 full beers a week or 1 quarter rum a week).
i dont want to smoke or drink anymore in my life.
i will get marry after 6 months…i want to have a nice and peaceful life without drinks n smoking…
so, i have successfully quit both drinking and smoking.
but, i’m bit scared that i may get any serious health problems due to my past habits of drinks and smoking. i had just (4 cigerettes a day) and drinking beer or rum( 2 full beers a week or 1 quarter rum a week) for the last 8 years, i’m being afraid that i may i get serious health diseases like lung cancer due to smoking and any other deadly diseases due to drinking.
eventhough i have quit these habits, i’m being mentally troubled by these fears of diseases that i may get due to my past habits of drinks and smoking for the last 8 years.
are there any chances of getting any serious diseases due to this 8 years of smoking and drinks?
what can i do?..help me please
shall i go for any medical checkups?..if so, what are the medical check ups i have to take? to what parts of my body i have to take these checkups?
or else, are there any other remedies?
Hi
One of the best thing is that you have realised what harm smoking and drinking have caused you. Another good factor is that you have quit already. Although you are handicapped, eight years consumption is not that serious for you to bother. For you not to fall again I would suggest you practice some sports which are adapted to your condition.
Live life to its most – it is much more worthwhile than just ditching it with drinks and cigarettes.
Happy New Year.
yes
You will likely never have any physical recourse from drinking alcohol, as you have not been drinking dangerous levels. In fact, many studies suggest that light alcohol use such as what you have been doing for the past 8 years may actually be beneficial to your health as it has been shown to reduce stress levels which in turn promote a healthier cardiovascular system. As for the cigarettes, your body starts to heal itself within 30 minutes of your last cigarette. Heavier smokers can experience healing times of up to 10 years, but since you seemed to be a relatively light smoker, your body should have no problems healing itself fairly quickly. I wouldn’t worry about your former bad habits; you have done the best thing by quitting both. Concentrate more on exercise and healthy living and try not to worry about the past.
I smoke 3 packs a day for the last 30 years and USED to get drunk every day for at least 10 years. (now only have a couple drinks on Holiday or special occasion) and I am 51 and in good health. The levels you describe will not harm you at all. Good for you to want to quit though. Have a nice day.
